My Green Card Story: From Frankfurt to New York

America has been very good to me since I moved from Bad Soden am Taunus (a suburb of Frankfurt, Germany) to New York City. Shortly after arriving, I began writing about my Green Card experience but eventually stopped and took the content off the Internet. In 2018, a friend encouraged me to publish my story again. Below is the updated version covering selected aspects of the relocation, finding my footing, going back to school, and evolving as a person and as a professional. In 2024, I became a proud United States citizen.

Most ideas for newly arriving U.S. permanent residents reflect my own experience and unique perspectives at the time, covering primarily the years 1998 to 2001. If you would like to learn more about immigration-related matters, please research publications of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service or contact the nearest U.S. Embassy. Also consult an attorney on all immigration matters.
